Question about the common application...

the common application has the 2007-2008 secondary school report, the 2007-2008 midyear report, and the 2007-2008 final report. if I apply early admissions, how does that work, since I wouldn't have my midyear grades yet, and what is the final report and how does that work if one applies in november or January?

Your guidance counselor sends out each set of grades, so, give the form to them and they'll send it out as the grades come out. If you're applying early, the admissions officials obviously won't have midyear grades to go by, but in most cases, only the school you end up going to will get your final report, which shows all of your grades for the year. I do believe that all of the reports must be sent to your college of choice for your admission to be valid. Hope this helps!

For the secondary school report, I am pretty sure that you would have to turn that in before your early action/decision deadline (it wouldn't have your senior year grades on it, it would just cover all info from freshman to junior year).
You would just turn in your midyear grades midyear as soon as you receive them; the only difference is it wouldn't be part of the admissions process if you were already accepted early decision/early action. However, if you do get sub-par grades senior year, I believe that adcoms could still revoke your admission to their institution. For regular decision, even if the application deadline was before your midyear grades came out, you would still send it in as soon as you received them, because adcoms would use them for the admissions process.

Same goes for the end of year final report; turn it in as soon as you possibly can (everyone would turn this in after the application deadline; it is just to make sure you weren't affected with a heavy dose of senioritis). The final report is your 2nd semester of senior year grades AKA your final high school transcript with freshman thru senior year.

Oops, URichmond already posted info!

thank you very much both of you.

I go to a fairly large school where each counselor has a ton of students to do this for, so is it wise to hand all the forms to my counselor when applying, or hold the forms until the right time for them to fill it out?

I'm in the same position as you; my counselor has 400+ students to deal with. Most likely hand all the info in at the same time, so she/he could write the same thing over and over, and and not have to refer back to ones she/he wrote 3 months ago. If the counselor has all of the forms at the same time, it won't be as much a headache to remember/obtain every single detail about you.
