So some of my schools required this form because my parents are divorced. I dont have contact with my mother (maybe a phone call once a year) because of personal reasons. I had her fill out this for colleges though, and since she is unemployed she can literally contribute nothing to my college. How will schools view this, and can it help me get more aid, even though my father makes a decent amount of money?

If your father makes a decent amount of money, your aid will be based on what he earns. Your mom’s lack of employment simply means that her added contribution will be $0…if she has NO income.

What it means is that an ADDITIONAL amount from your mother would not be required. Your aid is based on what your custodial parent can afford by the school’s formula PLUS what your non custodial parent can also afford by the school’s formula.

On the bright side, she was willing to fill out the forms so depending on your dad’s income you may still get some aid. A lot of non-custodial parents won’t even fill it out, then their kids are stuck :(
