Hi! I received a 4 on the AP Spanish Language Exam, which on the web site says can fufill my Language Requirement for UMichigan. Do I still need to take the Language Placement test?

As far as I remember, you do not HAVE to take the language placement (though that might have only been for Engineering), but pretty much everyone took one (even people in Engineering), even those who had AP Languages. Just take it.

I don’t think you need to take the test. If you want to be sure, Contact: Carissa Van Heest, Undergraduate Student Services Coordinator, 734-615-3198, Romance Languages & Literatures, 812 E. Washington St. 1275, cmvanhe@umich.edu

I think you might still need to. Be sure to ask.

You only have to take it if you intend to take language courses and want to start somewhere other than 101. If your requirement is indeed met by the AP test, which you should check with an adviser, you don’t need to take it.

I think you have to take the language placement test. Not 100% sure though

haha thanks for the replies, I’ll e-mail someone and post what they tell me ^^

"Hello, thanks for your e-mail. I’m so sorry it took me so long to respond – I’m just returning to work this week after being on leave. Please see the following link from our website about AP credits:

[Romance Languages - Advanced Placement Credits](http://www.lsa.umich.edu/rll/langinstruct/apcredits.html)

Students who receive a 4 or a 5 on the Spanish Language AP exam would receive credit for Spanish 275, and would have satisfied their language requirement through that credit. In that case, you wouldn’t need to take a language placement exam for Spanish, since the highest you could possibly place through that exam would be into the Spanish 275/276 level. If you wish to continue your Spanish, you’d be eligible to enroll in Spanish 276.

If you have any additional questions, please let me know.

Thanks!"
