So FAFSA typically shows the grant amount for 1 year (which is around $5,700 or so). How many semesters do you have to take to each year to receive the full 1 year amount?

What are you asking? There are 2 semesters in a year. The Pell is disbursed by semester for each semester you enroll in. So if you attend fall semester, they will give you half the Pell. If you don’t attend spring you then get nothing further that school year. If you do attend spring, you will get the other half. Does that answer your question?

And that 5700 Pell amount is for those with an EFC 0 who are going to school full time.

If you have an EFC of 2000, for instance, your Pell Grant will be much lower.

Yeah, that answers my question. I was just wondering because technically there’s 3 semesters in a year if summer is included.

Summer is not usually counted. Usual is a 50/50 split between fall and spring. If you want to make arrangements for using it in summer instead of one of the regular school year portions I think you can do that by talking to the aid office, but you won’t get additional funds.

$5730 is the full Pell amount. It is awarded to students who are going to college full time for the FULL academic year. So…if your school is on semesters, you must be enrolled for two semesters in the same academic year. If you are on quarters, you must be enrolled for three quarters. Summer is not included…this is the academic year.
