I had started the registration for the May 1 SAT Subject Tests yesterday and thought about finishing it tonight, before midnight April 1, since the deadline is by March 31. However, as I resumed my registration at 9:30 PM PST thinking, "Oh, I'm still early enough to get it before midnight," I actually didn't realize I already missed the deadline, since Collegeboard abides by Eastern Standard Time and not Pacific Standard Time, so it was basically 12:30 AM EST by then.

I believe there was this bright yellow box that informed me I was being charged a late fee, but nevertheless I decided to proceed with the registration. Surprisingly, it only showed $47 for 3 Subject Tests, and not $70 as I had expected (late fee added), so I assumed they weren't gonna charge me, and I proceeded with the order.

That made me panic. What if they charge it to my credit card later? I asked my friend to set up an incomplete registration for the May 1 test date (meaning she didn't proceed with the order; I just wanted to see what price would show up for her), and the price said $68 for her for the SAT Reasoning Test (SAT I). However, when she clicked the SAT Subject Tests, no prices were shown.

My question is, does Collegeboard charge you the late fee AS you are purchasing it, or do they charge it AFTER the purchase--a "surprise charge"? In other words, would the penalty fee suddenly just show up in my credit card a month later, without notification?

My mom's furious because I just basically dumped $23 down the toilet. I wanna hit myself in the head for putting it off until the last minute. I really hope I learn a lesson from what I did and be able to make up the money to her someday.

I need insight about this from someone, please. I plan on calling Collegeboard Customer Service but offices aren't open until 5 AM PST. I guess I'll have something else to look forward to at 5 AM PST apart from March 13 SAT score results being released. Now I really won't be able to sleep.
