Question About The SAT Scoring

Hi! So I will be taking the SAT in a few weeks and was wondering the EXACT way it is scored…

I understand that each section is out of 800… But on each section you get 200 points automatically…

So that means you can get between a 200 and 800 for each section… Meaning the questions you answer are technically out of 600?

Let’s say I get 25/30 questions correct in CR, 30/30 questions correct in Math, and 27/30 correct on writing… What would my score be with the additional 600 points? That makes my average on each section go higher (except math)… So how will that affect my overall score…

Sorry for my question that has probably been answered 100 times… I just need clarification! Thanks!

Not really. Your raw score is converted to a scaled score in [200, 800]. Essentially, one could simply subtract each section score by 200; idk why [200, 800] is used. The national average on each section is around 500, with standard deviation around 100.

Additionally, the SAT essay accounts for roughly a third of your writing score.
