What exactly is it and is it worth it?

The question stems from my birthday is about to approch and I plan on getting a laptop for it. But hoping i get in, i will then have the opportunity to get a laptop through SCI.

So is the discount worth it and are the laptops nice?

SCI is just a computer store through the school. i’ll let you decide whether it’s worth it or not yourself.

these are the models that SCI offers at the moment - they usually stay up to date though, so expect these to be updated with newer computers when you order:

they come with:
office, endnote, symantec antivirus, and a bunch of other programs you can get for free.
you can also add the ‘math/science/engineering’ option, which gives you mathematica, matlab, and either miktex/s-plus (windows) or texshop/r (os x)

generally, it’s a pretty good deal…

A thing to consider when buying through SCI and fin aid.

Every family has a EFC that cannot be reduced by outside scholarships. You can use outside scholarships to cover your “summer job” contribution, and if there’s still money left over, a purchase of a computer through SCI. That is what I did with my outside scholarship money.
