I need to start the essay on the UVA supplement for the College of Arts and Sciences (What work of art, music, science, mathematics, or literature has surprised, unsettled, or challenged you, and in what way?) My question is, if I want to major in science (I'm not exactly sure which area yet, but definitely science), do I have to write about a work of math or science? Because honestly, I can't think of anything along those lines that I would be able to write a really interesting and unique essay about. I would probably choose a work of literature. I'd appreciate any input or personal experience about this, thanks!

haha hopefully not . . . . i plan to major in biology yet I wrote about how Hamlet was my favorite work of literature I ever read in high school and how it effected me. . .

There are no specific directions beyond the question. Don’t make it more complicated than it is!

Uhhh…no.

I listed my anticipated major as math, and wrote about Heart of Darkness (novella by Josef Conrad).
