Johns Hopkins University was founded in 1876 on a spirit of exploration and discovery. As a result, students can pursue a multi-dimensional undergraduate experience both in and outside of the classroom. Given the opportunities at Hopkins, please discuss your current interestsacademic or extracurricular pursuits, personal passions, summer experiences, etc.and how you will build upon them here.
Should all JHU applicants explain in detail about their intended majors? I already wrote a rough draft, and, within the 500 words, I elaborated on specific research programs and interdisciplinary opportunities that appealed to my specific background (I could barely fit those, so I don't know if I should delete these interests to explain another topic such as majors). I also chose Biomedical Engineering (BME) as one of my interests for JHU on the application. So is it a really big deal if choose to elaborate on other aspects of JHU? :/

Advice from a non-credible source:
My kid was accepted, and a hodson. I think the suppliment gives the admissions person an additional insight into who you really are, and it is a great way to demonstrate your knowledge of JHU. One of the many considerations they have to consider are ratios of admitted v enrolled, and showing the reader you know Hopkins, and know yourself, adds a dynamic of “Do they know JHU, or are they just applying in case Yale rejects them”.

If you look at the threads showing accepted/rejected/waitlist, there seems to be no rhyme or reason, if you look solely at the numbers/GPA’s. These essays, in the total, are what I believe form the tipping point.
-Do they know the school.
-Will they come if admitted
-Will they add to the campus community
-Will they be happy at JHU.

Thank you Imontoya for the response! I managed to write a few more sentences about BME, while keeping intact the other aspects of JHU I was interested in. Already sent! hoping for the best…

can i see your rought draft? im stuck on mine
