Question about transfer to UCLA

Hey, I graduated High School last year and I am just starting out at a community college this January. I'm taking 19 units this semester, and I plan on taking 19 units again next semester. My question is this: Do I need to complete my 60 semester units before I am even able to apply to UCLA once the application period opens again? Or will I be able to apply with approximately 40-50 semester units since I would be on track to complete the required 60 by Spring?

If that doesn't make sense let me try explaining another way.
UCLA only accepts applications one time a year, the deadline of which ends around the end of November. These applicants are for the NEXT year's fall class (September-December). I want to know if I am able to apply THIS year when I will only have about 40-50 semester units completed by the end of the fall quarter. Because then the following spring I will be able to complete the last 10-20 units I need to complete the transfer requirements.

I'm sorry this is so confusing, I'm just completely confused and I've been researching this for the past week now. Please respond, any help is appreciated. Thank you so much.

If you won’t have at least 60 units by the time you transfer, you’re considered a lower-division applicant, and your high school stats are relevant.

If you will have 60+ by the time you transfer (Spring), then you’re upper division applicant, and only your college credit counts.

You can apply for the following year as long as you have at least 30 completed units.

Another question is whether you need to complete all the transfer requirements or if you will be able to complete any of them after admission. For instance, I was looking into transferring with a Math/Applied Mathematics. For that it outlines two years of calculus for the major, an introductory course in C++, two courses in calculus-based physics (mechanics, electricity, and magnetism), and one course in general chemistry for the major or a third course in calculus-based physics.
Would I be able to transfer with 1 year of calculus, intro course to C++, a course in calc based physics, and the general chemistry course? Or would I need to complete all aspects of the requirements before being able to be considered for that major?

UCLA’s Applied Math major is no walk in the park. Prereq will most certainly come into play and you missing a very good portion of what they are asking is going to hurt. Give it a shot, you never know. But do not be surprised if you are rejected.

I understand the want of getting in and out of CC quickly but sometimes getting everything completed and completed with good grades is way more important.

I’m also an applied math major and I highly recommend that you take two years of calculus and linear algebra/differential equations.

Prereqs are important, so you should complete as many as possible.

To give you a straight answers, yes, that’s how it works. I applied to UC’s during November 2012 with 46 units completed. I will complete the other 14 during Spring 2013.
