So i know that i want to go to smc for my first two years of college, then move on elsewhere. My question is that i know that if i go to a UC my gpa will basically 'reset', and start fresh at the uc, i was wondering does it also 'reset' if i go to a CSU?

And can i apply for finnancial aid or a scholar ship for smc? Any sites or links would be apreciated.

Yes your GPA will start at 0.0 at UC. Although I’m not sure if that goes for CSU’s as well. If you apply to grad schools they will average your GPA though. Yes financial aid is available everywhere just fill out a FAFSA.

[FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid](http://WWW.fafsa.gov) to apply for financial aid. Best to apply as soon as possible, especially if you are starting this year. If you are starting next year apply before January.

Regarding what Ella89 said, grad schools will average your GPA if they look at overall GPA, but they won’t really look too much at lower division classes, so your CC classes won’t be as important as your upper division classes taken wherever you transfer.

And ive heard that you shouldnt take ‘hard classes’ at a CC and leave them for a university. Which classes does this include? What should i take in the CC? I know that you guys are going to tell me core classes, but i would really apreciate it if someone could just straight tell me.

For example:

Year 1

Sem 1

english
cal
bio

Sem 2

…

Year 2
…
…
…
…

I was also wondering, can i also apply for the fasfa if i dont know which colleges i want to apply to yet?

Take whatever classes you need to transfer. Visit assist.org for guidance. The agreements will tell you when certain classes are recommended to be taken at the UC.

what department do i put if i want to become a dentist? And thankyou very much for asking that, that brings another question for me, what do dentists generally have as their major for undergrad?

You can major in anything you just need to finish the pre reqs required for dental school. Major in something that interestes you that you can succeed in during undergrad.

@doctor123: I am currently taking a pre-med track at SMC and would like to offer you some advice.

First of all, SMC has a great science department and you will be challegened greatly here.

Second, if you want to go to Dental school, transfer within two years, and complete your undergraduate degree within the standard 4 years, then you will most definitely have to take some VERY hard classes here at SMC. They pre-reqs for dental schools usually consist of 1 year calc, 1.5 years of bio, 2 years chem, 1 year physics, and 1 year of English of which most of ALL should be cmpleted at SMC.

Lastly, yes it is true that your GPA “resets” when you transfer to a UC/CSU. That being said since almost all of your pre-dental courses will be cmpleted at SMC graduate schools will look very closely at how you performed at SMC.

Let me know if you have any questions and all the best!
