I'm wondering what's the best way to go about transfering college. My high school gpa is pretty low (3.0ish) but my ACT is 33. So now I'm going to go to the University of Missouri.

I'm wondering, if I can manage a 3.6 or higher gpa in college, when's the earliest I could transfer schools? And what schools could I get in as a transfer student? I'm thinking about becoming a Law Student, so maybe I should just stay where I am and then go to a prestigious law school?

(I have strong financial need, so I'd need a university that would give me enough money to let me take out less than $15,000 a year in loans)

Are you a senior in HS?

If you want to go to law school, then you absolutely should not be thinking of borrowing $40-60k for undergrad! Do you realize how expensive law school is? Avoid loans…you’ll need to save your borrowing power for law school.

Also, schools tend to give worse FA packages to transfer students.

UMissouri is fine to prepare you for law school. Do well, get a strong LSAT score, and then apply to law school.

Did Missouri give you any merit money at all? what is your weighted GPA?

BTW…it doesn’t matter what you major in for undergrad, but note this advice from a top tier law school…

*The Law School does not require applicants to have specialized in any particular academic majors or subject areas closely related to law during their undergraduate education. **However, potential law students should choose courses that will enhance their abilities in the areas of critical thinking, oral and written expression, and logical and analytical reasoning. **Applicants considering law school are encouraged to enroll in a broad range of courses that will help develop these skills. *

I got very little merit money from Missouri. Does the prestige of my undergrad have any affect on the tier of law schools I could apply to and be accepted?

I’m thinking about being a Political Science major. I know it’s kind of cliche, but it’s what I’m interested in. I’m also very strong in reading/science.

You can graduate from UMissouri and get into a Tier 1 law school. It’s up to you to get the grades and the LSAT score.
