Question about transfering to UCR

this following november, i plan on applying to ucr for fall 2010. by the end of spring 2010, i will be done with all my lower prereq and igetc but i will only have 55 transferable credits. does anyone know whether this would affect my chances of admission?

to other universities, yes. to ucr, probably not. whats your major and expected gpa? they take mostly anyone in my experience, a few units shy shouldnt impact you. Also, i would call them up and ask since none of us are admission officers lol

It won’t affect your admissions. Couple of my friends who got into UCR fell short on the amount of units and they were still accepted.

i can hear the ucr ■■■■■■ coming

Might depend on the major. For somewhat more competitive majors, such as engineering majors, they might not be cool with your lack of units. I’m not sure though, just a gut feeling.

thanks for all the replies, i am a business major currently with a 3.5 gpa. i was also wondering if it is too late to finish all my lower prereqs and/or igetc by the end of summer 2010?

better question is, why just ucr? with that gpa you can get into the majority of UC’s. Not trying to put down the school, but just wondering why you want to go there specifically… esp for business

are you even applying to other uc’s? you really should if you arent…

as far as i know, i believe only uci, usc, ucb, and ucr has a business program, unless i am mistaken. i don’t really think i can get in ucb or usc. i’ve also talked to a uci representative from my school college fair, and she told me the average amount of students accepted to uci business program is 15; i believe that is very competitive and i don’t think i can make it. also considering, i will only have 55 transferable units.

Is there any way for you to take an extra 5 unit class to earn 60 units? If there is, like samsizzle said, you could get into other UC’s as well. UCI’s Business Administration Program IS competitive, but you can actually TAG into their Business Economics program with your GPA. UC Merced offers a B.A. in Management, and UCSC offers a B.A. in Business Management Economics also. I’d recommend, if possible, getting those 5 extra units and applying to a few other schools aside from UCR. :]

there is actually a way for me to take another class with 5 unit but I have to take it during the summer of 2010. this is why i want to know if it is too late to complete my igetc/lower prereq by the end of summer 2010 without any problems. oh, and about my major in business, i forgot to mention my focus is accounting so I don’t really know if it’s a good idea for me to TAG into uci business econ program.

so what did you decide on

@Bear

dude; i’m in the exact situation as you. Seems like you haven’t done enough research for colleges. lemme help you out.

You should transfer to UCSB. Why? Go check out the Business Econ - Accounting emphasis degree they offer. I’m applying there and CSULB.

You might want to apply to CSULB too.

What’s your reason for not checking out the CSU’s? IF you can get your gpa any higher you should look at CPSLO. And what’s your reason for being focused on UC’s?

I was thinking about UCI until i found through research roughly 15 transfers are going to be let in.

I agree with nujabes29. Most of the CSU’s have a Business Administration/Accounting Major, so apply there too. If you’re looking only at UC’s for Business/Accounting then UCSB is a good fit.

From UCSB TAG:
Business Economics major: Business Economics major: Business Economics, Business Economics with Accounting Concentration
-Applicants must complete the following four courses with a 2.75 grade-point average before admission to UCSB: one microeconomics course, one macroeconomics course, one statistics course, and one calculus course.
-Complete at least 60 UC-transferable semester units by the end of spring 2010 for fall 2010 admission.

I’ll be attending UCSC Winter 2010 as a Business Management Economics major. There isn’t an ‘Accounting’ focus, but for the Upper Division Business Electives, I’m planning to take all Accounting classes.

Regarding whether or not you can finish IGETC/Pre-reqs in the summer, I think it depends on the school, so the best thing to do would be to call their Admissions Office and ask.

nujabes up in this

Haha, we’re all in similar situations. I’m applying with a 3.44 this year but the main problem is I will be missing calculus. I originally wanted to go to a UC too but they’re all mainly econ majors. I’ll be applying to UCD as managerial econ, UCI and Business Econ, and UCR and Business Admin and I’m also applying to Cal Poly Slo, SDSU, and SFstate.
