How hard is to transfer to UF as a junior psychology major?

I'm not sure how the psychology department is: but it wasn't that bad for me to transfer into UF. I've heard you have a better chance if you're coming from a CC, apply early, and if your GPA is good because psychology is a "limited access" major at UF. I'd call up the department and see if you have all of the requirements (some of them struck me as very weird for transfer students to have...like supposedly you have to take Trigonometry before you get accepted into the program?). Good luck!

Oh, I've also heard that transferring in is about to get a lot more competitive or difficult. I'm not sure if that's 100% positive, but it's what I've been hearing.

"I've also heard that transferring in is about to get a lot more competitive or difficult"

This is especially true for UF, but will also hit FSU, UCF, & USF hard. The state of Florida just does not give enough money to handle the extra students, also the enrollment is maxed out at UF as well.

I talked to an adviser back in July, and UF, as far as this adviser is concerned, is not capped in terms of student enrollment. It is capped, faculty wise, until about 2010 or 2011. FSU, on the other hand, I heard was capped. I'm trying to transfer to UF as a AA transfer for English, and it doesn't look like it's going to be a fun time, notwithstanding the fact that I currently have a 3.9. Has anyone gotten in as a transfer and can give us a general idea of how difficult this really is?

Son was admitted as a transfer student for the spring term into the CLAS. Transferring from a CC with an AA and a 3.6 ish GPA from CC. Applied as freshman, 4.4 w GPA, 1260 SAT and did not get in.

Two weeks ago I was accepted for the Spring term with an AA and a 3.1 GPA. I did very well in my first year, transfered to American University for a semester and did relatively well, transfered back to MDCC and did awful. In my last semester. I received straight As in all of my Major-relevant subjects and therefore I assume UF saw that I had potential when I applied myself and accepted me. I was also very active on campus.

So I think you'll be fine.

What about me? I want to transfer from another stat U in florida to the business program at UF. I have a 3.65 gpa and all 5/7 pre-reqs complete by application and 7/7 complete when i enroll(if i get accepted). I had OK(pretty bad) high school stats, 3.6 gpa 24 ACT.

If you have 60 credits your highschool record is irrelevant unless it needs to be checked for fulfillment of the foreign language requirement. Even in such a scenario, however, I doubt your highschool transcript will be considered. As a matter of policy it certainly won't be. I had an advantage because I transfered with an AA from a FL community college.

How hard is it to transfer out of state from another university? We're buying a house in FL so I assume I'll have state residency sometime. I'm a freshman btw.

I think after living here for six months you get state residency, which will dramatically lower the cost of tuition.

You have a number of options...

If your highschool record and SAT scores are very strong, you may want to base your application on that.

If your highschool record isn't great your best bet is to transfer into a FL community college, take whatever credits the given college accept, and bust your ass to a full 60 to get your AA. If your GPA is above a 3.0 and you received an A or B in all subjects relevant to your major (on all attempts) you have a good chance of being accepted into UF's College of Liberal Arts (check the UF site to find what prerequisites are required for your major). Other colleges may be more competitive, so invest a disciplined effort and do the best you can.

By the way, you either need two years of foreign language classes in highschool or 8 college credits worth.

BO5T0N, State residency comes after 1 year of living here. If you're under 23 (I think it's 23...it's 20-something) then it's your parents who have to have residency (a license, voter's registration, all that fun stuff). I went through this myself so if you have residency questions just ask :)

Guess it's a year after all then bud. You can still follow the plan I've outlined for you but you'll be paying out-of-state tuition.

I go to a pretty good school (ranked around UF) right now, but I dont like it. I wanted to go to UF, but I was out of state and my dad's legacy at UF Law didnt help so I didnt bother applying. I'm a freshman in college, I meet all of the reqs., etc. I mean I'm really not sure what to do right now.

I'm not sure how many credits you need to apply as a transfer student (that is, not having to submit your highschool transcript) but just know that transferring without an AA is extremely tough, so I hope your record is flawless.
