I know that UC's favor CC transfer students over Inter-UC transfer students. What if I went to UCSC for a year and a half, then took a couple semester classes at a community college, then applied to transfer for an upper UC from the CC? Would the UC's evaluate my application as a CC transfer?

No, they wouldn’t. Since you attended a 4-year university, they will not, so you might as well just work your ass off at UCSC and then transfer. I think I read somewhere that UCLA looks at UC to UC transfers sorta like CC to UC transfers. Good luck to you, anywhos!

UCLA considers CC transfers priority over UC transfers, like any other UC. You would need to DROP OUT from UCSC for at least an year and be in a CC for at least an year to be considered a CC transfer.

I doubt it because you had already attended a University of California campus, you would still be foreseen as UC–>UC transfer, although, I would recommend double checking that. However, if you were attending a CSU and then stayed at a CC for a year or so, I think they might view you as a CC transfer depending on the amount of units you’ve taken. Contradicting what shortstuf said, I was at an OOS four year last year and am currently finishing up at a CCC this year. For application purposes, I’ve already verified with UCSC that I am looked at as a CCC transfer because I have finished more than half of my units at my CCC. Make sense?

I highly advise against attempting a CSU to UC transfer, as they are considered even lower priority than inter-campus transfers. If you attend UCSC for a year and a half, you will most likely have too many units to be considered a CCC transfer, even if you drop out and attend community college for a semester. However, it really does depend on your total amount of units, and where you got them from.

I’ve heard multiple times that UCLA considers CCC transfers and inter-campus transfers equally. Berkeley, on the other hand, actually discourages inter-campus transfers; so unless your GPA is amazing it would be difficult.

I was accepted from UCSC to UCSB for fall 2012, so inter-campus transfers are possible. But if your goal is to go to UCLA or Berkeley, you’d probably be better off just attending community college. Admissions are already competitive enough.
