What should I do differently from what I did last year during the application process?

actually give your current school a chance. if you don’t, you will screw up your entire college experience no matter where you wind up, and I promise you will not write a good enough transfer essay.

what did you do last year?

I took the liberty of looking at your data and you have unbelievable stats. How did you do, in general, in the application process (pm if you are more comfortable with that)?

I agree with mb above that you might end up really liking and doing incredibly well at the school you chose. Aside from that, you can show the ability to get all As in college.

i will pm you burry. and michael-----why do you assume I couldn’t write a good enough transfer essay. I am going to a state school and that is simply not what I like. I am severely introverted and going to a school with 40,000+ students just isn’t what I want. I feel I can handle the challenge of a different school, because, frankly, this school doesn’t seem to hard. I’m taking difficult courses, and the prerequisites are easy.

A good transfer essay requires a thorough understanding of where you currently are in order to add depth to your argument of why you want to leave and how Brown has what your current school does not for exactly what you’re looking for.

again, my question still stands. I’ve already been at my current school for 7 weeks last summer(science program), and i’m here this summer taking difficult courses. I know for a fact that this isn’t the school for me and I’m damn capable of explaining that.

alright, well nevermind then. summer courses are completely different from actually going there though, keep that in mind.

Hey, I can sympathize. I’m extremely extroverted and I still wouldn’t want to go to a school larger than Brown.

I don’t know what advice to give you, other than express how your perception of your academic needs has changed, and how you have come to realize that Brown offers the things you want. We have a good deal of transfer students. Emphasizing what you now know you’d like to contribute to Brown, especially how you can make that contribution here better than anywhere else, will show them that you have put in a lot of deep thought.

I got in as a transfer this year. My essay for the common application was rubbish.
Like you, the size of my current school was a reason I wanted to transfer. I wrote that, and explained that I wanted a school with a stronger sense of community.
I recommend stating a good academic reason as well; for example, if Brown or wherever else you are applying has a major your school doesn’t. Also, be specific with your goals so that you stand out from the other applicants, so that they really get a feel for you as a person. It’s better to be a unique pretty good applicant than a top notch clone, IMHO.

oy vey so much, message me. former transfer and application coach here

Would the former transfers have any advice to give to an international student wanting to transfer?

pm me noones

I did, Napolean. Go check.
