On my "transfer credit report" some classes are prefixed with "TR." For example: "TR-Math125" "TR-Java" etc... Does anyone know what this prefix means? There is no legend explaining it.

There is no number to call and it says that if I have any questions I should email my academic advisor (which I did), but they take a while to reply so I posted this here in case any of you know what it means.

Transfer? Transferred credit? Probably denotes the class was not taken at USC.

I would assume something to that extent…

Purely a guess, but I would hypothesize that a TR prefix means a transferred class which is given direct course credit at USC. Instead of using the course number designation from your previous college, it appears they may be using the USC course designation (e.g. MATH 125) with a “TR” notation to show it was not taken at USC.

Another possibility is that your previous college used identical course number designations (e.g. MATH 125) and USC inserts the “TR” to differentiate the course from one taken at USC.

You could determine which of the above it is by comparing your previous college’s course numbers to the ones shown on your transfer credit report.

Let me know if I was close or way off!

The important thing is how the course is credited on your STARS report in terms of satisfying requirements and electives.

I think you guys could be right because my physics: mechanics class transferred but they did not accept it as a substitute for their physics class and so I have to take their physics: mechanics class. It shows up as “TR-PHYFUN-1”.

How did you two come up with that conclusion by the way? I would have never guessed that TR means “not accepted at USC”

Transfe**R/b

Haha

Yea but you guessed that TR means “did NOT transfer” right?
So I was wondering how you came up with the “not” part lol

Because USC classes on your STARS report are simply Dept Code-Course Number, for ex. PHYS151 would be the USC version of Mechanics.

Wow i got a faster reply than expected.
A class with the prefix “TR” means that it does not replace the physics requirement for USC but it does however give me transfer credit.

end thread.

I mean it does not replace a certain uni requirement but i get credit for it
