Question about Tulane Essay

hi!
I was just wondering since tulane states that they do not want a 'formal essay', would it be okay if i gave a title to my essay?
Help of any kind would be appreciated :)

C’mon…ANYONE???

First of all, on a forum like this, 10 minutes is nothing. People come on and off all the time, so be patient.

Second, you can do whatever you want with the essay, except make it too long. Title it if you want.

Sorry! I guess college application is driving me off the edge lately!! I also had another doubt… I heard that the ‘why tulane essay’ has a character limit, so does that include spaces or not? I promise to be patient :)

I am not sure about the character limit. But brevity is highly prized in these things, given the thousands they have to read. Anyone out there that did their Why Tulane online that can answer the character limit question?

I don’t remember it having any character or word limits. I just remember the personal statement having a 500 word limit. Maybe I am forgetting something though. I think my Why Tulane essay was just over 500 words.

just checked. DS essay was 500 words exactly, no title.

The “Why Tulane” essay was the shortest one daughter had to write. The application said under 500 words, I think, but hers was 366 words. No title and she got in EA.

My DS’ Why Tulane essay was 309 words, no title. Even in that short essay, he was able to hit the key points in why Tulane was a good fit for him. He was accepted EA.

My child’s “Why Tulane?” essay was 316 words and no title. It was warm, honest and passionate. EA!

My why Tulane was actually some what over 500, but there is no official word limit. There is, however a 500 word limit for the personal statement. Regardless, as others have said, the shorter you can make it while still hitting key points, the better off you will be.

My daughter’s essay was 511 words. She is a very happy Freshman.

Hey! I got admitted EA, and my Tulane statement was the same essay that I used for the Common app describing a meaningful experience (499 words). The “why Tulane” answer was only 160 words. I didn’t plan it out, although now that I’m reading over it, it’s actually quite poetic! Neither of mine had titles, but I don’t think that would be a problem, especially if the title added some humor or wit! Best of Luck! :)
