Question about UC selection; I'm taking more classes than most people, but getting a smaller gpa?

So this year, my senior year, I am taking 7 classes. I am taking 4 AP's along with 3 unweighted classes. One of the classes I am taking, Production and Performance (the highest level of Theater elective that the UC system recognizes), is completely optional and I took it simply because I love it. Here's my dilemma: since I am taking on another class that isn't weighted, it is lowering my gpa. If I was not taking Production & Performance my highest possible GPA for this year would be 4.67; but with Production & Performance my highest possible GPA is 4.57. It kind of seems unfair to me that someone who is working less than I am, with the same amount of APs is getting the higher grade.

My question is this: Will the UC system favor someone with a higher GPA than I even though we had the same grades and same amount of AP's, but the other person had less classes (and therefore a higher GPA)?

You should take the classes you love. The difference in GPA between 4.67 and 4.57 is negligibile and the UC’s will recalculate your GPA anyways. You should be fine and you have a very impressive GPA either way.

Thanks for reassuring me. Do you know how UC’s calculate GPA?

Here is a link for the UC GPA calculation: <a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/</a>
You can only use 4 of your UC approved Honors or AP classes taken 10-11th grade to get your 8 honors points in the calculation which means it is capped. The Stats posted on the UC website gives the average GPA of admission based on this UC GPA .
