Question about UCal word count!

Hi guys :)

University of California listed on their website that the combined maximum word count for both of the prompts is 1000 words.

My combined word count is 1050 words.

Should I find some way to cut down those 50 words, or is it alright?

Thanks so much! :D

I would cut down those 50 words. It shouldn’t be too challenging; just try to eliminate superfluous words that aren’t necessary to make your point. I’m not certain how strict colleges are on word counts but I would recommend being safe not sorry.

Be really careful when doing this. Just because a word isn’t strictly necessary doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be there…make sure you don’t cut out important transition words or other words that help the essay flow well.
I recommend just cutting out whole sentences here and there rather than just random words. They should really be unnecessary, though.
