question about UCD and UCI

well this is kinda early to ask about which school should i go to before the acceptance letter but i just wanna know what u guys think. So this is my applied major to these UCs. My goal is finish 4-year and apply to medical school. which school would suit me better.

btw. i heard from my friend who attended to UCD that when she tried to sign up for her chemistry class for next quarter, it get full in few hours. iam kinda worried about that if i go UCD. is it same thing for irvine because of the budget cut?.

Another question. which major will be better for doing good on MCAT.

UC davis - applied for biochem molecular biology.
UC irvine - applied for biological science.

If you’re really undecided, I suggest you visit each campus and see where you like it best/ fit in. Both schools are about on equal levels academically, as far as I know (UCD may be ranked slightly higher). Another thing; look at the curriculum for your major at both schools. Determine which one YOU think will prepare you best for the MCAT and med school admissions.

As an apparent Asian (Vietnamese, given your user name?) applicant, the community vibe surrounding UCIrvine may be a more comfortable environment for you. UCIrvine and the Irvine community is more multi-cultural than Davis. I would also take that into consideration since both schools probably are close to meeting your needs academically. Good luck!

I’m Mexican-American and I went to visit UCI and I loved it! I’m an older student so I’ll be communiting if I go there…as I drove there I love the surrouding area, seemed very rich and clean. The people @ UCI were also very nice.

Yeah, also consider the location of both schools. Davis is a small (cow) town in NorCal, and Irvine is near OC in SoCal.

thanks guys yea im gonna plan to visit each school once admitted

I’ll be communiting if I go there…

I’d say UCI is definitely more of a commuter school and, yes, it is in a beautiful area. Newport Beach is just an “easy stroll” from campus…

It is like this at all UCs. Maybe not UCM but yeah its like this at all UC especially in popular majors like bio.

Also did you finish bio 97, bio 98, bio 99 equivalent at your CC for UCI? It makes a difference. UCD you don’t have to go through another year of bio like UCI has it. If you didn’t finish the 97 98 99 series than you will have to finish it before starting your UD classes at UCI. That means you would have to fill ur summers up if you want to graduate in 4 years.

I have been at UC Davis for 3 months and I HAVE NOT seen a cow once.

I also had no problems getting any of the classes I needed and wanted at UCD. I noted that there were lots of spaces available in chemistry courses DAYS after I signed up for classes. As for budget cuts, all UCs are suffering. But UCD has a pretty large endowment compared to other “mid-tier” UCs. They were able to help with more financial aid/scholarships than UC Irvine could. I would visit both campuses first and then decide.

@flwrgrl:is chemistry an unimpacted major at Davis?

I don’t think it is. I think engineering, biology, and psychology are the most impacted but don’t quote me on that :)

Uci is a beautiful campus , only downside is that having a park in the middle means that if you have a class on the opposite side of campus it’s a hell of a stroll to get there.

I actually live near campus and walk and i gotta say it’s a bit of a exercise if you choose to go that route. (20 minute walk)

Not too familiar with UC Davis’s campus , but if you commute to UCI, there definitely is a lot do around UCI . Theres even a bar on campus which serves decent food and a wide variety of beer. 3 Shopping malls within 15 minute drive of UCI. Newport beach, Huntington beach, and a ton of parties on weekends if your outgoing enough.

I’m a bit of a older student too(24). The one thing that i really liked about UCI was that the students don’t have transfer bias like UCLA/UCB students do.
