Question about UIUC essay - academic interests

Hey guys,

I am applying to UIUC (univ of illinois at urbana champagne) this year. I just had a doubt in answering the first prompt.

In an essay of 300 words or less, please discuss your academic interests and/or professional goals.

I have two main academic interests: chemical engineering and computer science. For chemical engineering, I've done an internship at a pharmaceutical company, while for computer science I have designed websites and stuff. But are we allowed to discuss more than one interest in the essay? I was wondering this because you are only allowed to choose one major while applying. Moreover, it's really odd because the chemical engineering major is in the liberal arts/college, while the computer science major is in the engineering school.

So should I include both academic interests? or should I choose only one of chemical engineering or computer science?

Thanks :)

well if your applying as undecided then you should discuss both and explain your need for exploration for both, but if your applying to one of those majors I think its best you pick one and focus on it in your essay.
Good Luck!

Merry Christmas!!!

Focus more on the one you’re majoring in. Otherwise, you can include both and express your interest in dual majoring if that’s available.
