I was recently admitted (early decision) to the college of Arts and Sciences. I had chosen that school over the business or engineering school because at the time I was completely undecided on what I would want to study, so I figured a broad liberal arts kind of education would be best to start with until I could choose a major. But the more I've thought about it, and the more I've talked to people, the more I realized that I would probably fit in best at the business school.

Now, according to Lehigh's Academic Resource Guide, "Students who wish to transfer from one undergraduate college to another may do so if they have achieved sophomore status and are not on academic probation. Those students in good academic standing may transfer from one college to another at registration if approved by the appropriate dean of the college. After conferring with the associate dean in the new college about requirements and opportunities, the student must complete all forms for transfer no later than three weeks prior to registration for the semester in which they wish to make the transfer."

What does it mean that students in good academic standing can transfer at registration? If I ultimately decide to transfer and have to wait a full year to do so, will I be at a disadvantage since most other students will have taken introductory courses? I don't know, I'm just kind of confused about how this whole thing works. Thanks in advance for any information.

On the common app supplement it said that if you were unsure about which college to apply to, you should apply to the Arts and Science college with an undecided major, which I did

I'm still not sure what is going to happen, but I'm starting to believe that since I did that I'm not officially in any college at this point.

Don’t worry about it, The business school has no required courses for freshman year. Seriously, that’s why we science majors hate them. Just take courses like Calc, Eco1, etc. and fulfill your distribution requirements. Nothing really starts until sophomore year for business students. Good academic standing means you held a 2.0 gpa as a full-time student and I don’t even think you need to wait a year. I know a few people who changed colleges after one semester.

i dont think the rules to transfer are as strict as the guide outlined. if you really have your mind set on studying in the business school you should talk to the school immediately and see if you can switch colleges before coming on campus. the only required class i can think of that business students have to take their 1st year in the business college is business 1, which is like a seminar class. however, you really would want to take economics 1(intro to economics) your 1st semester because its a prerequisite for basically any class in the business school. most of the classes you take your 1st year are general ed classes(like english, math, science, social science). if you have ap credits you can take some of the business classes early or if you have the preeqs and the available credits to take them.

there arent many job postings for english majors so it may be hard to find a job if you majored in english. if youre looking for something to broaden your studies you should look into the international relations minor. alot of students in the business college minor in that and double major in finance and accounting. the international relations department seems pretty strong to me. google their website to find more info.
