Does anyone with experience happen to know if the UCs all come in about the same? We’ve gotten the package from UCSD, but UC Irvine is really taking their sweet time, and it is pretty critical that we know what it is before my son can begin to make decisions.
Thanks.
Net price calculator tests at UCs indicate that they tend to be similar, but can vary by a few thousand dollars.
However, if the situations are different (commuting to one, but living at another), there could be greater variation (including difference between the actual cost of food and utilities at home and transportation compared to the school’s estimates).
I’ll run an NPC on UCSD. I never did, assuming if my son went, he’d live at home, but they gave us enough for him to live on campus. It came out about $1500 less than UCI’s NPC, but maybe I didn’t calculat correctly. I just wish UCI would release their aid soon.
Some (all?) UCs do change financial aid offers based on whether the student is on campus, off campus, or commuter, according to their net price calculators.
Interesting. I ran the NPC on UCSD and our actual f. aid package was more generous by about $2700. It included a Pell Grant, Cal Grant and UCSD Grant (and the Cal and UCSD Grant sort of combine to do the Blue Gold thing +).
So, really hard to know what UCI will come out to be.
Running UCI again seems to have UCI being a little more generous. Time will tell, but it would be nice!
