Question about URichmond!

Hi all- I'm a Long Islander that finished his 11 applications weeks ago, but now I'm considering applying to some new schools in hopes that I can get a better financial aid package.

So my questions are- what are the general requirements for admission? Is an interview required? If so, do they do off-campus interviews?

Is it too late for me to apply- asking this, because if an interview is required, it may be past the deadline to request one.

And lastly, how is the FA at UR???

Any help would be much appreciated.

Not too late to apply! You need to apply by 12/15 though to be qualified for Richmond Scholars which is basically a full ride. The Admissions tab on their website has a timeline for you. ([University of Richmond: Home](http://www.richmond.edu))

An interview is not required. My D has applied ED there and loves it. Small LAC in a rural setting. Highly regarded school. Excellent w/law and business especially. They are selective admitting about 40% of applicants. Check out their website for a profile on incoming Freshman. We love Richmond and are hoping for good news in the mail in the next few days.

UR is a need blind school with excellent FA. They meet 100% of need with scholarships, loans, grants, jobs. A high percentage of the FA is typically “free” money.

PAVenturer, just to correct a couple of things in your post - the acceptance rate is usually around 30%, I know they accepted an unusually high amount last year, but it typically ranges closer to 30% than 40%.

Also about it being an LAC in a “rural setting” - what? We’re less than 6 miles away from the urban city of Richmond, and the area surrounding the campus is definitely as suburban as it gets. It’s definitely not rural at all.

Kellie - what I meant to imply was that it “feels” rural. There is a decent sized city close by but you don’t get that feeling from the campus. It’s not like many schools where you can’t tell where the campus stops and the city starts.

As for the selectivity number, I was going from memory thinking that last year was something like 38% If that is an anomaly I defer to you!

I know UR from a prospective student’s parent’s perspective. Three campus visits and research. If you are there you are much wiser than I! I hope my D can meet you in the fall!

And, I’m from Los Angeles. Rural is in the eyes of the beholder. But suburban would’ve been a better adjective.

My daughter is a freshman and really likes it. She choose Richmond over Wake Forest, Boston College, and Emory. There was no interview but we did make two visits.

FA was better than BC and Wake Forest and not as good as Emory. Meeting 100% of need is different to each school.

Suburban setting and a beautiful campus. Richmond is a large city but my daughter tells me it is not that accessible without a car.

According to a couple of guidance people I know, the school is becoming more selective than it has been. The students my daughter has meet have been high achieving kids who were involved in many high school activities and are doing the same at Richmond.

Kellie, the acceptance rate is typically closer to 40%. The class of 2013’s acceptance rate was 39%, 2012 was 30%, 2011 was 38%, 2010 was 45%.
