Hey,

UVA's cost of attendance not only calculates tuition and fees, but it adds in books & supplies, and THEN it even adds in personal, and if THAT wasn't enough it adds in travel! Very nice.

However, it fails to mention anything about the required health insurance, which is a big deal. Certainly, if they don't want to add "health insurance" to your "cost of attending the University" then they don't have to. But here's what I don't understand: Why include "personal" to the "estimated cost" while not including insurance?

Actually, the COA page says:

“The following estimated expenses apply to students in any undergraduate program. They are listed as “Other Expenses” in the subsequent estimated Cost of Attendance tables for each program. Please note that Independent undergraduate student budgets differ by the inclusion of a health insurance amount of $2,445 for the year.”

In other words: If you are a dependent student, your estimate health insurance cost is $0 because you are expected to be covered under your parents policy. If not, your expected cost is $2445.
