Hey I just submitted my application for a transfer to the University of Virginia after my first semester. I know since it is so early (being halfway through the freshman school year) they base a lot on high school performance. This is good, since i did very well in high school. But my question is how do they know about college grades, because they mail their decision on December 1st, but first semester grades arent out until mid-late December. I heard that these types of decisions are based on high school performance + the difficulty of courses you are taking in college, is this true? Thanks a lot - John.

Johncodu, Here's the thing. You should have waited until next semester to apply. UVa does not accept very many students for spring transfer and add to that the fact that UVa requires you to have 24 credit hours after graduating high school before transferring makes your chances very low. If you didn't get into UVa after high school you're not going to get in during a spring transfer because you haven't proven anything else, you have no new grades. Your best bet is to apply to transfer for the fall '07 after you have grades for your college classes. I'm sure you've looked at the information on the admissions website http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/transfer.html#transtime , you'll see that I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm simply being realistic. You were waitlisted after high school which means you're close but they need a little extra convincing which is what a semester of great college grades could do. Provided that you don't get in this spring apply again next semester if your grades are good this semester.
