Question about Villanova University, please help!

How difficult is Villanova's college of liberal arts and sciences? I am going to be a pre-med student and the other main schools I am applying to are: Creighton University and Miami University(ohio). How much harder is Villanova caparitivley to these two?

anybody? >.>

What are your stats? Its hard to say without knowing them, but Villanova is difficult to get into.

Pre-med tends to be the most difficult track at any school. I don't think organic chem is inherently easier at an "easier" school.
Creighton can be a very demanding school, from what I hear.

S is a freshman this year. loves it, but his particular ACS class requires a ton of writing...so far has written 5 smaller papers and 2 5-7 pagers. Tons of reading in that class, too. His roomie has a priest and he has written only 1 paper to date. Luck of the draw. Nothing that he can't handle, but you do have to be very organized with your time. He is not in Arts and Sciences, but friends are.

Good luck!!! Villanova has gotten very competitive.

Why isn't Villanova ranked on US News & World Reports rankings of national universities?

my info is:
GPA: 3.33 weighted 3.17 unweighted

GPA TREND: freshman year: 2.8. sophomore year: 3.0. junior year: 4.03. senior year first semester: 4.6. (Villanova requires a submission of first semester senior year grades and I think it shows how big of a grade trend I've had and that I am continuing on that path)

ACT: Composite: 29. English: 34. Science: 29. Math: 27. Reading: 24.

COURSES: 2 honors my sophomore year, 2 A.P my junior year, 3 A.P my senior year. (my course difficulty increases at the same time as my success in those harder courses)

EXTRACURRICULARS:
- 1 of 20 accepted into highly selective hospital internship for high school students.
- lifeguard at public and high school pools for 4 years
- swim instructor at public and high school pools for 4 years
- volunteering at hospital my senior year
- volunteered every Christmas for 4 years at the local shelter for homeless women and children
- volunteered for park district camp as a junior camp counselor
- black belt in tae kwon do

Essays and Rec's: Villanova doesn't take teacher recommendations but my counselor recommendation should be really good because she saw how good my grade trend has been. I also think my essays are pretty good.

HIGH SCHOOL: public but very well known and very competitive.

I am applying to Villanova's College of the Liberal Arts and Sciences

ehhhhh thats tough man... 3.17 and a 29 will hurt...

Villanova's mid 50% is 31-33.

Uh, no -- on College Board, it says it's 27-31.
Villanova is not on the National universities list because it is not classified as a national university by the Carnegie Foundation. It is classified as a comprehensive, master's university, and U.S. News ranks those by region.
Really not so important -- look instead at the programs you want, acceptance rates, etc.

dbwes you're wrong. the attending rate is 27-31, the acceptance scores are 31-33... you can check on their website.

the big upward grade trend doesnt help? >.<

First of all, the accepted student score is for the MIDDLE 50%. They all have to be ACCEPTED to attend. There are kids who are accepted with higher AND lower test scores than that. Also in consideration is a GPA--which now is 3.7.(A-)at the lower end. The website says it is weighted, but I am not so sure if you look at the caliber of students who are attending Villanova as of late. My niece was accepted 2 years ago and she was #1 in her class, top SATs (2180), merit aid; she's at Georgetown. My S who is there had a 3.83 uw.

Quite frankly, Villanova is now in competition with schools like Boston College, Holy Cross, Colgate, Richmond and other schools on that level. These kids are all accepted, but may head elsewhere because of "better" offers of financial aid and the top students have acceptances into more prestigious schools.(Of course those stats go into the accepted category). My S2's roommate wanted to go to Dartmouth....he had the scores and the grades, but didn't get in. My D graduated from Nova in 05 and she told me there was a kid who got into Yale, but chose to attend Villanova because of the $$$. There were also kids who got waitlisted at the ivies who attended. Villanova's class also includes legacy-about 15%. The test score averages probably also include athletes as well.

swimguy, I would classify Villanova as a reach for you just based on your GPA and your test scores- (a little low), but who knows....with the amount of applicants Nova has these days, admissions is somewhat of a crap shoot.

Yeah, I mean, I already knew that Villanova would be a reach. Does anyone know anything about Creighton's pre-med? Or Miami's?

Wow that is impressive. I was not aware that Villanova had moved up and is now in competition with schools like Boston College, Holy Cross, Colgate, Richmond. It is obviously really on the upswing!

From what I understand, the last 2 years have been a little crazy. This year is supposed to be the peak in terms of # of applicants. The rise of the business school has also contributed to that as well. I am curious to see how many applicants there will be this year. When my D applied in 01 there were 10,000 and last year there were a little over 15,000. 5,000 of those were to the business school.
