Question about Waitlisting

okay, i just got waitlisted at georgetown and i'm not really sure how this whole thing works. so they respond back by may 15 whether or not i got in, but that's after may 1 (the date where we're all supposed to respond back to the colleges to tell them whether or not we're going to their school). if i respond to another college, saying that i'm going to go there, then come may 15 and if georgetown accepts me, then do i contact my other school and tell them that i don't want to go there anymore and i want to go to georgetown instead? i hope that makes sense...

it sounds a little weird and confusing... help anyone?

You have to make a deposit at whichever school you want to go to that has accepted you by May 1. Then if you get accepted from the waitlist at Georgetown later you can switch there instead (but you lose that non-refundable deposit that you made to the original school). I don't have any experience with it, but I assume at that point you can just contact the original school to tell them that they can keep the money but you won't actually be enrolling there next year.
