QUESTION about Wharton!

I am probably applying RD for Wharton (mostly due to financial issues. Parents have a lot of assets, but 0 desire to pay for college and I don’t think I can foot a 48k tuition by working part time)

Anyways, if I apply Wharton and get rejected, is it still possible to get accepted into the College of Arts and Science for Economics?

Please answer the above question!!!

I want to go to Penn, especially Wharton, but I would be happy studying econ at Penn as well.

Also, do I have a chance RD?

Heres the basics.

Recommendations: Ok to above average

please read the many threads that have previously answered your question.

you may not apply for admission to more than one undergraduate school at penn through the single-degree admissions application. therefore, if you are rejected from wharton, you are also rejected from the college.

the joint-degree programs allow you to select a single undergraduate school for backup (if not m+t or huntsman, then wharton, for example), but there has never been an option to try for the college if not accepted to wharton for the same academic year.

also, applying RD for Wharton is killer.

About 5000 applicants applied to Wharton last year and Wharton accepted approximately 650. 500 enrolled. That's about what... 11 percent?

Looking at your stats, you have little to no chance.. no offense or anything. =/

I'd say you have shot assuming you write a great essay and manage to pull together reqs that are just 'above average'

your leadership positions are very weak, especially for wharton which values those much more than the other schools, but your scores and grades are excellent, so i'd apply, but do it ED if you're set on wharton.

so should I apply to upenn as econ major instead?

you have a shot, don't be deterred from trying if that's what you want. I was in the same position and have a citiassist loan right now (prime rate loan deferred until after graduation). I was accepted as a transfer (which has a lower admit rate than regular matriculation) with stats that were (slightly) worse. No SAT IIs, so so ACT, decent but not perfect GPA... but my extracurriculars were good on a general, original level and i had one recommendation in particular that was amazing as well as pretty good essays.

i get asked constantly "isn't it totally hard to get into wharton? especially as a transfer?" i just say no, i applied and filled out the same information everyone else did, and was fortunate enough to be accepted. you'll never know unless you try!

one piece of advice i can offer, is to do something of significance if you can -- something original; they are big fans of leadership.

Just try, the worst they can say is no.

"Looking at your stats, you have little to no chance.. no offense or anything. =/"

***?!!! Where did you get this conclusion... the person 3 perfect SAT IIs and a 2390 on SAT Reasoning... and great academic report...

I've heard Wharton is big on essays, so definately write a strong essay that conveys your interest in business...

***...2390 and 800s on SAT IIs and you say he has no chance...this place is full of idiots
