Question about William and Mary Financial Aid...

I recently recieved my Fin Aid letter and recieved $2,600 in Sub. Stafford loans, which, alright, whatever. What i'm confused on is that it says this is based on the expected cost of attendance, which, on another sheet, they state at 17,532 for residents and 34,074 for non residents.

Is this "resident" and "non-resident" referring to in-state/out of state students, or those that decide not to live on campus? If its the former, then $2,600 as the only aid is a bit ridiculous for my EFC, but, i wouldn't see why it would be the latter either.

So...i'm confused. I always thought tuition for out of state was in the $20,000 range, but i see differing information, so i'd like some help from here, before i go see my guidance counselor soon.

thanks

"Cost of attendance" includes more than tuition, room, and board - it's an estimate that also includes books, transportation, fees, etc. The resident/non-resident refers to in-state versus out-of-state.

Tuition for out-of-state was about $23K last year (you can expect it to go up somewhat each year). Room and board is in the $7K range for a standard double and 14-meal weekly plan. The additional $4K in the non-resident cost of attendance figure provided might be more than you actually spend, depending on your travel expenses, books, what you need for spending money, etc.

W & M is not known for generous financial aid. It is a great school, though, and still at least 10K less per year than you'd spend at a comparable private school.
