Question about Work-Study Time Commitment

How much of a time commitment are work-study part-time jobs? I guess the answer is going to be 'depends on the job,' but how much for a normal one where I have to do 10-12 hrs a week?

I turned down my work-study offer last year to make sure I transition to college well but this upcoming year I'm committed to trying earn some money!! Please let me know your experiences, feedback, insights, and etc thanks!

A 10-12 hour job will have a time commitment of 10-12 hours (plus a bit to get to work). What’s your question?

After a year of college you should be able to estimate how big of a burden a 10 hour/week job is on top of academics. Think about how you are spending your time. Could you set aside 2 hours a day and still stay on top of your work and have whatever social life you desire? Then a 10-12 hours/week job should not interfere with the rest of your life.

Well I mean I guess is that other than how much time I have to put it how much work itll take me (not quantitatively). Should I expect to be exhausted after work or do you think I’ll end up using most of this time doing my homework while working? How much of a burden should I expect? I guess that’s my question

^^^This.

I think it really depends on the particular type of job you have, and the people who employ you. I often see students who work for the library, cafeteria, etc. doing homework, but if I were to do that at my work-study job, I’d most likely get fired. In my experience, even if you aren’t able to do homework during those 10-12 hour periods, you will still have plenty of time to finish assignments, socialize, etc. throughout the remainder of the week (Last semester I worked two jobs–one of which was work-study–at over 20 hours/week, and was still able to make Dean’s list/hang out with friends. Time management is a must). Good luck!

If you can find a office type position for Work-Study , TAKE IT … i mean yeah there will be times that you do work but there will also be a lot of time for you to do school work lol trust me thats what i been doin all semester

arachnophobia12 - GREAT answer! Thanks
