In your opinion, how good is 11 on the writing? What percentile is this score in?

That is REALLY good. Isn't the highest 12?

11 and 12 are both 99th percentile according to the ACT website

yeah, an 11 is amazing...

i know people who got 2400s on the SAT but could never get above an 8 on the ACT writing. The scoring is a little dumb. Obviously you're a great writer, but you're lucky that they like your writing style.

Be proud of that "11". Its hard to get.

i got an 8. is that like, pretty good? i mean my friend has gotten three 10s in a row and is ****ed off about it, but i feel like i rarely hear anything higher than a 10. do people apply to good schools with 8's?

I really disapprove of the ACT writing section...
an 8 is fine (plenty people get into HYP w/ "8's"). I got two 8's (on an essay i thought was not written well, and on an essay I really thought I completely dominated).

I've been a little concerned about it, but I dont think it makes much of a difference. I've yet to personally meet anyone w/ a score above a 10 and know a few people with 36's and over 30 w/ 34's and 35's.

On one essay I wrote, the comments were, "Your essay adequately supported general statements with specific reasons, examples, and details. Your essay maintained focus on the specific issue in the prompt." So i guess that makes it an 8? I have no idea. The SAT grades much better on the essay in my opinion.

yeah XYZ i got the exact same comment, i really think they just slap that on for every 8. as the score go up they probably change the word "adequately" to something like "excellently."

and actually i have a neighbor who got a 12 on the writing section. while its an awesome feat, it seems pretty meaningless as she would probably still be going to the exact same school in the exact same honors program with the exact same scholarship, with or without the 12. but it's something to give props for i guess.

This is the comment I got today:

"Your essay addressed the complexity of the issue by evaluating its implications. The logical sequence of ideas in your essay fit its persuasive purpose well."

An 11 is great, as it is 99th percentile. Good job.

Can someone post a link to the chart that shows the percentiles for writing? Thanks.

They're at the bottom of this form

Thank you guitarman89.
