question: ACT vs. SAT for colleges

Is it bad to only send your ACT scores to colleges, but not your SAT scores? This question is more directed towards selective, ivy-type schools.

I know colleges say that either is fine, but I'm convinced that they would want both or something. So is it ok to just send ACT if you don't have great SAT scores?

Won't you have to send in your SAT score report anyway for Subject Tests?

It's okay to just send in your ACT score, with writing. I've known people getting into top colleges with either, and not necessarily both.

I'd take them at their word if they say either ACT or SAT is acceptable. I assume your ACT is better if you want to send that but not SAT. That's probably a good call. As for SAT subject tests, schools are all over the map on this. Some accept the ACT as a substitute for SAT I and SAT II. Others want SAT II scores whether you're submitting the SAT I or ACT. Read the fine print.
