Question and chances?

Our d. completed two years of HS french, giving up after failing the midterm sophomore year. She went to MHC knowing that she would have to take a foreign language again. It wasn’t held against her that she didn’t have 4 years of language in HS. Good luck!

That is true-- we do have a requirement of completion of a foreign language at MHC. It isn’t waived most of the time, however, even if you’ve completed four years of a language. I’ve completed four years of Spanish (with no language my last year) but I still have to go in through Spanish 200 and finish the L requirement. There’s a test you could take to get rid of the requirement, but it’s for people whose language is very strong. So, most of us are stuck, like Another NJ mom’s daughter, by having to take the language classes again.

The benefit of studying the language in HS, though, is that you won’t have to start in the 100 level (in which there’s only one class that fulfills the L req-- Intensive (difficult) Elementary Spanish). So, I think it’d be good if your daughter at least studies Italian or Hebrew on the side so that when she takes the placement test, she places into a good level (closer to 200) and won’t have to take as many language classes to fulfill the requirement.
