I think you have a very good chance. Although I don't know how exactly your GPA translates to out of 100% like my school.
I had:
91% average
1150/1720 SAT
26 ACT
Top 20%
+ A few clubs

and I was accepted and attending in the fall.

I know Stony Brook has a dentistry school, but I am not sure how great it is.
And it is about 50 miles east of the City, but like 1- 1 1/2 hour drive

one more question

It says on their wesite that subject tests are recommended. Are these used for the admission process or only for placement purposes?

p.s. im OOS if that matters

I don't believe they are used for placement. I didn't take any and I know quite a few people who didn't as well. I think it could only help with the admissions process if you take them though

Sounds like you're in the ballpark... and yes, Stony Brook would be great place to prepare for dentistry, as we have a School of Dental Medicine right on campus.

Have you visited campus yet? Do you plan to? Where are you from?

Chris

Also -- about an hour and a half (60 miles) from midtown Manhattan. The Stony Brook village train station is right on the north side of campus, so it's pretty easy to get in and out of the city.

Chris

I live in Chicago so I will probably live on campus

Great... have you been to campus yet?

not yet but hopefully soon

So you are a High School Senior now, or a College Freshman?

Your scores seem good, it all depends on everything, not just grades and such. Extra things are good too. Sports, clubs, community service, awards, etc.

SBU's medical center is one of the best in the country. It is one of 2 colleges in the country that teach a certain field of medicine, and are able to treat certain conditions. Their hospital is HUGE....

Zuljian, what do you mean when you say: "It is one of 2 colleges in the country that teach a certain field of medicine, and are able to treat certain conditions."

Are trying to say that SBU med school is special? I mean I work there so I can tell you from personal experience that it is no more special than any other med school. I mean it has a good rep with good physicians, but then again so do all of the ivys. I do feel that the med school is a very valuable asset to the campus and those who take advantage of it, are very smart and lucky.

There was an article I was reading up somewhere that said that they are one of 2 that teach a certain field. Idk the details, but that is what I read.

I think clinical psychology. It is ranked in like the top 4 in that field.
