so does it cost just about 900 dollars for books in freshman year or a bit more? I mean, would you need to buy a new book for second tri for a class, such as chemistry, math, or french, if you’re just continuing on? how much do books for the Writing Seminar cost?

for bio and chemistry (101/102) the same textbooks were used this year. for math and french, chances are you'll need different ones. i think i ended up spending 750 or 800 dollars, but it really depends on what type/how many classes you take. for a writing seminar or french lit class you might have to get 5 or 6 smaller novel-type books, while a new calc book might be part of a package that costs way too much.

definitely find out what you need ASAP and look for used books at the store or online. they run out a lot faster than you'd expect.

I spent about $550 in books first semester. I'm in engineering and took 5.5 credit units first semester.

Boys and girls,

Theme of the movie: it doesn't pay to be an engineer. pay heavy book fees in college, and become someone's B**** aftewards. Trust me I know, my dad is one.

Don't be anybody's b****, straight up.

holler for a dollar

I give you five hollas. Now give me five dollas.

your vietnamese accent needs practice

I'm not Vietnamese -- quit changing the subject and pay up

lol talk about going off topic here. Fo shizzle.

you dont have to be anybodies ***** if u are an intelligent engineer that starts his own venture

Math 104/114 use the same book.

...and 115 uses a different one from those two courses if anyone was wondering

does anyone know whether the math 104/114, intro to bio, and intro to chem books would stay the same next year?

Amazon marketplace (and any number of other sites) should cut your book bill in half.

does amazon sell the book for math 104?

I imagine so. I didn't take that class, but I've only had one textbook that I couldn't find online.

Penn sells the book for $100 (new), so you're better off buying it from them.

so how fast should i act if i want to buy books online? as soon as in june/july?
would it be too late after orientation day?

www.betterthanthebookstore.com is pretty awesome in terms of buying cheaper than the Penn bookstore, seriously. Half.com is also REALLY good in terms of competitive prices for books. It also helps to ask professors whether or not older editions are suffice for the course, that could save you tons.
