Question / Chance an out-of-stater

Question: There is a lot of hype in the media and general talk about the difficulty of graduating a UC (particularly Berkeley) in 4 years because of the California budget crisis. While money is not really an issue, my parents would probably get annoyed having to pay for 5+ years of out-of-state tuition for a public school, when I could graduate in 4 years from any private school paying the same yearly tuition. Additionally, I feel like graduating in 5-6 years would take away from my college experience. Does anyone have any incite into this issue? (difficulty getting classes etc.)

The graduating in 4 years issue has been addressed frequently in this forum already. You can do a quick search and find multiple threads on it.

But, just a recap: it’s generally really easy to graduate in 4 years (maybe even 3) as long as you plan your schedule. The only people who don’t graduate in 4 years are people who didn’t know what to major in until their junior year, then it’s not really the UCs fault.

You’re a strong student. I agree with demoz. I doubt you’ll have problems. If you have some 5s on AP tests, you may be able to waive some lower division requirements.
FYI: The newly passed California budget restores a significant portion of prior budget cuts.

I think you have a great chance. Good luck!
