Question: Could someone explain why SATs were invented?

......gah....my brain hurts from lack of sleep...and it's only 11.49 pm

money!!!!!!!

wut else?

level out the playing field.........

SATs were invented to test the academic potential of students to perform well during their first year of college. The format was unique because IQ tests like the Stanford-Binet, had to be administered individually while the SAT could be administered to a large group of students, therefore creating a cost reduction. That is why they were created...I dont think that that is the answer you were looking for

The original version of the SAT was an aptitude test used by the military. Then Harvard started using it as a way to identify talented candidates beyond their traditional feeder schools (prep schools for wealthy kids in the Northeast). It's been all downhill since then. You may as well get some sleep.

Oh, and although I'm 99% sure your question was rhetorical, if you really want to know the answer to your question, read "The Big Test: The Secret History of the American Meritocracy" by Nicholas Lemann.

to keep the jewish over achievers from flooding colleges. Now it's for the azn people.

i've heard about the SAT being invented to show that white people outperformed other races and were inherently smarter

No that's why the IQ test was invented. The SAT test was invented in part to correct this misunderstanding of intelligence present in the IQ test.

ok never mind then, thanks for clearing that up

to **** me off...

act's better
