yea...just wondering if the whole WORLD gets a letter from harvard, then a few weeks later gets a little booklet with an application in it. just don't wanna make myself feel too special =

Are you a URM?

This means Harvard sees you as one of the top 70,000 students in the high school graduating class of 2005-2006, and they want you to apply.

i got one too

o nice.

What are your stats? I want to see if Ill get one as well.

Tha application in the booklet, is it a CommonApp?

oh yeah, top 70,000... Watch out Harvard, here I come.
lol

I didn't get one. =(. However, I have a bunch of friends who did.

what are your stats pineapple_sushi?

nothing impressive.

2070 SAT I.

I quasi-DIED on SAT II's:
Lit 730
Math 2 580 (i know right)
Spanish 710

UC GPA (10-11 minus PE) 3.65 i think.

AP LIT 5
Ap US 3

I didnt get that ECL thinhg or whatever it's called. the top 4% thing.

class prez, bunch of club leaders, blah blah. not quite as godly as many of the people here. i probably won't end up forking over $65 to harvard just so they can reject me...lol.

Hey, sure they're not choosing the top 70K or top 6 billion for that matter to send apps. I registered for their mailing list like twice or thrice, maybe more:D The form didn't include any space to boast your stats or anything. The snail mail works like mad here, very probably these VNmese folks can't read my address in English, gr gr. But I got a booklet from Princeton exactly two weeks after I registered. Geez, I love Princeton:D

If you guys are lucky enough to get apps, mind posting the essay prompts? I think someone posted them somewhere, but God knows where now. Might as well start working on essays; little chance of recycling this year.

The prompts are from the common application. They are as follows:

Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.

Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.

Indicaed a person who has had a signfican influence on you, and describe that influence.

Describe a character in fiction, an historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence.

A rane of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences add much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.

Topic of your choice.

All essays are supposed to be between 250 and 500 words.

ADDITIONAL ESSAY: Occasionally, students feel that college application forms do not provide sufficient opportunity to convey important information about themselves or their accomplishments. If there is something you would like us to know, please inform us in the additional information section. If you wish to include an additional essay, you may do so in the space below.
Possible Topics:
Unusual circumstances in your life
Travel or living experiences or other countries
Books that have affected you the most
An academic experience (course, project, paper, or research topic) that has meant the most to you
A list of the books you have read during the past twelve months

Good luck on writing your essays!

Why don't you guys just use commonapp.org? Harvard prefers online submissions anyway, and the supplement is probably already up.

Can one write about anything for Harvard's additional essay? (Like "Why did I chose Harvard"; "Ethical Dilemma" etc)

"The recruiting program for the Class of 2010 has already begun," said Marlyn McGrath Lewis, director of admissions. More than 70,000 letters will be sent to high school students, and Harvard admissions officers will visit 70 cities this month in conjunction with three other colleges. "Thousands of prospective students and their families have already visited Cambridge over the past few months, attending group information sessions and tours" she said. Attracting the world's best students is now a year-round effort.

I got one, and I was homeschooled and haven't even taken the SATs yet. No clue where that thing came from, but I tend to be in the "they just want me to pay the application fee" camp.

Not a bad way to collect a few million dollars.

Not to mention make the ol' selectivity rating go up...

Did anyone else get the phone call from a student at Harvard?
