Okay, this isn't really important or anything, but I just read a blog from a current plebe at West Point, and in it he described an incident that took place I believe on April 19th regarding a "fire drill", drug-sniffing dogs, the BTO, and a mob??? Could someone shed some light?

He may have made that all up but it sounded quite convincing. Anyway, let me know what happened. I'm intrigued.

I never understood the point of "naked man" running around the central area at night... do I (or any others) really want to know the ... history behind it?

Yeah, from what I hear from some CDT LT's, it was a whole lot of nothing. Who'd of thought, the media not reporting the truth on things concerning the military? ;)

The media was reporting the incident directly from comments made on the official daily report that was leaked from the academy. I saw a copy of that report that was filled out by an army officer on duty at the time. The media was certainly not to blame for "blowing anything out of proportion"==it was the official academy report on the incident that apparently was slightly embellished. The media merely reported what they read in the report. The direct quotes in the media were right from that report.

It seems to be in vogue today to blame the media whenever we read something we don't like or agree with---they are not perfect, but like our system of government I wouldn't have them any other way.

yeah, it was all taken from the Officer in Charge report from that day, which was a complete fabrication of what happened. The Times Herald Record really shouldnt have ran that, but they live to bash West Point, so it does not suprise me at all.

However, shogun is right about the trend to bash the media. Face it, they're going to be overseas with you, and you have two options, either isolate them and have them report about all the bad things you are doing or let them in, show them everything, and at the end of the day, you have nothing left to say but 'here I am, warts and all, judge me as you wish'

Homer you said that the media was not reporting the truth in this instance, when in fact, all they were doing was quotong from an official academy record of the incident. If they are not "reporting the truth" then they must be either "blowing it out of proportion" or being outright dishonest. I chose to assume you meant the former--did you mean the latter?

I spoke with alums about the incident. They indicated that every year there is something that gets to the Corps. They blow off steam and it goes away.

West Point is a place where rumors have a life of their own. They are nurtured by cadets and parents then grow out of proportion.

did i specifically say the media was blowing it out proportion? i believe my quote was "whatever you heard, it was blown out of proportion" not indicating it was the media at all. it really wasn't a big deal. talking to an old grad, stuff like this happened in his day too. nothing serious happened at all.

Homer, my mistake. I was responding originally to skirrby's comment and somehow pulled your name into my post, not his. Apologies...the quote I was mentioning was from his post, not yours.
