Question for AdmissionsDaniel

How long do JHU Admissons folks take to evaluate an freshman application?

There is not a specified time that it takes an Admissions counselor to review an individual's application. Each counselor works at a different pace, and each individual application is reviewed in an individual manner. There is no standard way we review, nor is their specific guidelines about how each counselor must read. We all do it differently, yet with the same goals in mind.

To gain some insight about how I specifically evaluate an application, read one of my old Hopkins Insider Blog entries:
http://hopkins.typepad.com/hopkins_insider/2006/01/three_months_of.html

Hi admissionsDaniel,

I was just wondering if JHU provide financial aids for international students? And will the university meet the full need? Each year, how many students actually get such kinds of aid?

Check out this page. From the page..
"Students who are not U.S. citizens, permanent residents ... are considered international students and are not eligible for federal financial assistance, but may apply for Hopkins funding ... Hopkins offers need-based scholarships to undergraduate international students. Approximately 10% of the incoming international freshman received need-based scholarships. The average scholarship is $25,000, but individual amounts can be more or less, depending on the financial need of the student."

yeah thx..But actually I came across that page before. What it said on the website is just the average. What i'm more concerned with is what is the maximum amount that JHU will be able to meet. Also, i have heard that JHU rarely gives aid to intels so just want to confirm with the present students there:)

Yes, we do provide financial aid to SOME international students.

For those international admits being offered aid package we will most likely meet full need, but we do not provide full tuition packages. These decisions are made on an individual basis so there are no minimum / maximum amounts.

Approximately 10% of our enrolling international students receive financial aid packages - that translates to between 15 - 20 students.

"As far as our policies on financial aid for international students, Johns Hopkins does offer renewable scholarships and need-based financial aid available for enrolling freshmen who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Due to limited funds, both types of assistance are awarded on a competitive basis and are highly selective. For more information about applying to Johns Hopkins as an international student, please review this website: http://apply.jhu.edu/faqs/international.html.
AdmissionsDaniel - What about financial aid for transfers?

From http://apply.jhu.edu/faqs/falltransfer.html:

What type of financial assistance is available for transfer students and how do I apply?

The University offers a combination of grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study programs that assist students with demonstrated need to afford the cost of a Hopkins education. Financial assistance available to transfers is very limited, and students desiring aid should be cognizant of the application deadlines.

The University cannot offer financial assistance to international transfer students. Non U.S. citizens who do not possess U.S. Permanent Resident status must complete the Declaration and Certification of Finances form to show their ability to meet the financial obligations of attending Hopkins in full. Applications will be considered incomplete until this information is received.
