so, now that decisions are pretty much set, how do you think this year's applicant pool was? any really great or absurd essays??

I will have a post about the quality of the Class of 2011 on the Hopkins Insider blog next week - stay tuned.

As for essays, I am saving those comments for a special Insider blog entry later this summer.

Admissionsdaniel - on the original application my son listed a few possible majors - film and media studies and psychology being his top two choices. He is now filling out the reply form and needs to choose one. He received a Lovejoy book award for humanities majors presumably because Film and Media studies was his top choice but now he is leaning more toward majoring in psychology. Is it ok to continue to list both as he is still undecided and actually may want to minor in one of the two or double major?

momdad:

When completing the candidate reply form (CRF) your son can list any major he is interested in, or undecided, or a number of areas of interest. In no way does listing a major on the application or CRF bind a student to those choices. JHU students can change their majors often, with engineerings declaring by the end of the first year and A&S students declaring at the end of their sophomore years. We ask about intended major on the CRF so that it can assist the advising offices as they begin the registration process for students.

This policy holds true of all programs of study at Hopkins except for BME - as has been said many times in the past.

Congratulations to your son for his acceptance, his book award, and it seems his enrollment into the Class of 2011 -- I assume he is coming if you are asking about the CRF.

Cheers!

My essay for JHU totally owned. The essay was creative in a sense that it explodes with imagery and illustration. Yes! I even drew a picture on MS Paint to illustrate my basement library. Ridiculous it may sound but I even pasted the picture and essay on bright yellow paper and added orange triangles to accent the borders.

Haha, my creative essay was just.. odd. I thought the admissions people would think I'm either a creative genius or a total loony. I used origami paper, small cut-out pictures of me and my family, and a mini Pride & Prejudice book. The explanation for it was.. not so bad, I suppose?

admissionsdaniel! when are you posting the comments on class of 2011? We're all waiting! ha ha. I've been reading all your blog entries. yay grindhouse!
