Question for any admissions reps at mit

My question is about the validation exams and credit limit for freshman. Specifically, are you allowed to take the validation exams for both levels of a given subject (18.01 and 18.02, etc)? I know both exams are given but do they fall on the same day? Also do ap credit and validation exams count towards the maximum freshman 54 credit policy? Although highly unlikely...would it be feasible to nearly take care of all the science/math GIR before the school year actually begins?

thanks in advance

I'm not an admissions rep but I can answer your question.
The advanced standing exams sometimes overlap but I would imagine you can probably work something out to be able to take the ones you need. They don't count toward your credit limit, and it's quite possible to place out of most of the GIRs through the exams combined with AP credit. This is a good thing, since it gives more flexibility to your schedule, so try to place out of as many subjects as possible (and if you can pass the exam, then you know it well enough, so you don't really need to worry about that).

Yes, my friend down the hall passed out of all GIRs!

including 6.001?

people don't typically pass out of 6.001, and it's not a GIR. A lot of people in 6.001 have a lot of programming experience actually.

right, it's not a GIR. lol an IOI gold medalist took it last sem...i'm afraid you can't "pass out of it"
