I am applying for UCLA.
I wanna ask if I can choice economics as my first choice and undecided of social science for my second choice or reversed? Is it strange for me to choose major in this way?
I would be appreciated for your answer :)

No that’s not really weird at all. Honestly what major you apply for within a specific area (like Humanities vs Social Sciences) doesn’t really matter, unless you’re talking about the sciences or engineering. But even when you are admitted it is extremely easy to switch your pre-major. The whole “applying with a major” thing is actually really dumb now that I’m actually at UCLA and realize that what your major is doesn’t even matter until you finish all the prereqs for it.

thank you for your reply. Can i ask u how can i arrange my choice to have a better chance getting into UCLA

Unless you are a transfer student the way you arrange your choice won’t matter.

thank you for your answer Do you know whether Mathematics/Applied Science Actuarial is under life science or social science??? thx

Also would it be hard to be admitted in Mathematics/Applied Science Actuarial???’
Thank you

Q: Does my choice of major have an impact on my chances for admission?

A: For freshmen applying to a major in UCLA’s College of Letters and Science (L&S), choice of major will neither enhance nor diminish their prospects for admission. In fact, a large number of freshman applicants apply as “undeclared.” Major is a factor for freshmen applying to non-L&S schools at UCLA (Arts and Architecture; Engineering; Nursing; Theater, Film and Television).

All applicants–freshman and transfer–should be aware that applicants to majors in the School of the Arts and Architecture; the School of Engineering and Applied Science; the School of Nursing; and the School of Theater, Film, and Television are evaluated differently than applicants to the College of Letters and Science:

The majors in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science are very competitive–especially Bioengineering. All engineering applicants will be expected to have especially strong performances in math and science courses.
