question for CS people

I want to get into CS because I am very interested in data encryption and security stuff. But, i only plan to go to school for a bachelor's degree. Is it possible that i can get into these types of classes?

They are often offered as senior level or graduate level classes. You can usually get permission to take graduate classes as a senior.

well most of that is math classes, but some are CS courses also, so yeah in your senior year

At UCLA, Cryptography and Computer Security are both offered to CS/CSE undergrads.

too bad its too late for me to go to UCLA. I had an app and everything, should have taken the SATs.
Anyways, anyone know of any schools that specifically offer these courses to undergrads?

JHU has this:
http://www.jhuisi.jhu.edu/education/

It's a graduate program but I don't see why they won't let you take security courses as an undergrad (you have to call them and ask) there are other cryptography and security courses at JHU as well many of which are available to undergrads. Also Avi Rubin of busting Diebold voting machine fame is a professor in the JHU cs department. (http://avirubin.com/vote/response.html)

Not too mention an interest in computer security can be well served by JHU's proximity to WashDC.

That looks like it's only open for people with a bachelors.

but you can do your undergrad at JHU and take some of those courses perhaps?

It looks like their deadline has passed.

Some CS programs might offer basic or more advanced cryptography/security courses at the undergraduate level but these are usually during your junior/senior year. Also, some universities will also allow you to enroll in Graduate Classes during your senior year and you could always just ask the professor if you would be able to enroll in anyway.

In addition to CS classes, you should also be on the look out for Math courses, since crypto is usaully their domain.
