I've been researching MATLAB software and found that there are several optional features that come with it, I was just wondering which ones were worth purchasing if any? Thank you

The only thing that concerns me is that the Dean told incoming engineers at their orientation that it was necessary to have the software on their computers, and I’m not sure specifically which one.

I can assure you that Dean Rankin said nothing of the sort. No engineering student MUST have MATLAB on his or her computer. The software is readily available in the engineering computer labs (EIT and DSV), the ARC Computer Lab, and the BEST Computer Lab.

It is, however, convenient to have MATLAB on your personal computer. You can get a four year license for the student edition for $100, which is perfectly acceptable for Intro to Computers for Engineers and other engineering classes. There are also other means of obtaining the software.

Thank you for the advice, I just wanted to make sure that it wasn’t a necessity among first-years. Perhaps I phrased my question incorrectly, but Dean Rankin did advise incoming engineers that it was convenient (not required) as you said. Again, thank you for your help, I look forward to starting next month!
