Is it hard to transfer into hotel school from another school within cornell? I originally applied for CALS but I'm beginning to think Hotel School is a better fit for me. Anyone have any experience or knowledge about this that can help me out?

What major did you apply to in CALS?

Why do you think Hotel is a better fit?

i applied for environmental sciences. i've always been interested in all sciences and also business. i was thinking of doing envi sci and/or AEM in CALS but after learning a lot more about hotel school i'm a lot more interested in it. originally i didn't even learn anything about it because i thought it was just for people who wanted to be hotel managers, but after learning that it's so much more i'm a lot more interested. i've always been interested in business and tourism so i'm having second thoughts about CALS.

If you have a good GPA and know why you want to transfer it's not hard to transfer between any of the colleges.

but can i transfer before coming to cornell? will i be behind if i don't transfer right away or will i be able to take the hotel courseload without being in hotel school?

you won't be able to take the full hotel courseload b/c most of the hotel classes are strictly for hotelies, esp the freshmen ones. space is very limited in those classes and to take them requires the professor's permission. however, it is possible to attend some of the classes you are interested in on the first day and ask the prof if there is room. if you get lucky, s/he might let you in.

if you really want to be hotelie, i'd suggest switching before taking a semester of classes not related to the hotel school. call the admissions office and they might be able to arrange something for you.
