I was just browsing the SFS site (I was admitted EA this fall) and had a question. It says students are required to complete 40 courses to graduate. With 8 semesters, this means 5 courses/semester which seems to be more than at other colleges (I thought 4 was the norm). I was wondering how students handle this- do SFS students feel overwhelmed with the workload?
I’m a current SFS student and most students across the different schools at Georgetown take 5 courses per semester. It can be challenging at times but I’ve never found it to be overwhelming and many SFS students manage to balance this workload with extracurriculars, internships, and more. It really ultimately comes down to credits rather than classes. For example, I’m actually taking 6 classes this semester but one of them is a 1 credit pass/fail class that only meets once a week. I’m busy and challenged at the SFS but I’m studying things that i find really interesting and I still have time for extracurriculars and a social life. Georgetown challenges you but I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ve never found it to be more than the students can handle.
@hoyabluegray thank you for your answer! that clears things up a bit.
I have heard things about the club exclusivity and the importance/dominance of clubs on social life. Is the social life at Georgetown diverse? I am from the Bay Area as well, and I haven’t visited yet. I’m wondering if Georgetown will be starkly different from here socially.
@driven280 on CC, you’ll almost certainly get a faster answer to your question if you create your own thread rather than trying to use someone else’s
@yonceonhismouth ahh haha I’m so sorry! I meant to post that comment on @hoyabluegray 's “ask me anything” thread.
