Would you recommend bringing a laptop to campus? Do some majors require you to bring them to classes? BTW, I have been admitted to Bioengineering.

It depends on the class. The classes where a lot of people use laptops are classes with a heavy emphasis on powerpoint presentations. In math and science classes they are virtually non-existent.

Don't laptops get stolen frequently there?

I'm thinking about getting a laptop too. I prolly wont bring it to class or anything. Just gonna TAKE IT OUTSIDE, SIT ON THE GRASS, and do my hw in THE SUN.

And I'll prefer sharing a dorm with just ONE roommate, cuz if u share it with TWO, then u can't be sure who would steal it LOL (im just assuming the two roommates are the worst types u can get, but prolly not gonna happen)

When you get your laptop, you'll probably find that sitting in direct (or indirect, or so-dim-it's-practically-non-existant) sunlight makes it virtually impossible to see the screen. Even in tree shade, I have difficulty seeing mine. Oh well. Tan skin is overrated anyway. :(

lol. o well u can always adjust ur contrast and colors.

i dont know of any classes that require a laptop in class

laptops and bikes are the most stolen things here, but if youre careful nothing will happen

I'll get one. I can't see how laptops could get stolen unless you leave yours lying around, which you'd have to be an idiot to do.

well i suppose if u fall asleep on the grass with ur laptop then it might get stolen.

Say I type faster than I write, am disorganized with papers, and travel everywhere with my iBook. Would people stare at me if I were to take notes on my laptop? I'm an incoming English Lit major, if that's at all significant.

I once brought out my laptop to take notes in the one community college class I'm taking right now; my professor just kind of stared at me blankly, like I was playing games instead of listening to him and I'm wondering whether that's common in college classes.

no, there are plenty of people in almost any class with laptops

i know at some other colleges, the college has already a plan with computer companies to provide discounts/technical service to students. does berkeley have this too? or should we plan on buying everything ahead of time on our own?

get a desktop, more gaming power!!!!!!!! i mean......research.........=P

im wondering, are there wireless internet services provided on campus?? there should be like a booth thing on grass where u could sit and surf web or osmething haha. nice idea tho ~

oh the berkeley hotspots............

Is the campus Mac-friendly? Or do I not to stop dreaming of an iBook and get a ThinkPad?

its mac friendly alright....if you can find those really nice computer labs with nice nice nice mac computers.....................

In other words, not too Mac friendly...great

no, its mac friendly..........

Great, I was thinking of getting a Powerbook this summer. That's good to know that it's mac friendly. Can I ask add the price of the notebook to my loan? I heard you could. Has anyone done that before?
